Scoring

  • Each subtest is standardised; a composite TMS score (Gesamtpunktzahl) is calculated.
  • The result is expressed as a percentile rank among all participants that year.
  • Most universities count TMS as 20–51% of the overall selection score alongside Abitur.
  • A score above the 80th percentile is generally competitive for top programmes.

How to prepare

  • Practise each subtest type separately before attempting full mocks.
  • Focus extra time on the knowledge subtest — it requires content revision.
  • Speed and pacing: most candidates struggle with time, not difficulty.
  • Take at least 2 full timed mocks in the weeks before the test.
  • Use ITB's official practice materials as a starting point.
